Terms & Conditions

These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern the rental of vehicles from Roadrunner Rent-A-Car ("the Company", "we", "us"), located at 1/F, 28 Queen's Road Central, Central, Hong Kong. By making a booking or signing a rental agreement, you ("the Renter") agree to be bound by these Terms.

1. Eligibility to Rent

To rent a vehicle from Roadrunner Rent-A-Car, the primary driver must:

• Be at least 21 years of age. Drivers aged 21–24 may be subject to a young driver surcharge.
• Hold a full, valid driving licence that has been held for a minimum of 1 year.
• Visitors to Hong Kong must hold a driving licence valid in Hong Kong under the Road Traffic Ordinance (Cap. 374) or an International Driving Permit (IDP).
• Present valid photo identification (HKID card or passport).
• Provide a valid credit or debit card in their own name for the security deposit.

Additional drivers must meet the same eligibility criteria and must be registered at the time of rental. An additional driver fee of HK$100 per day applies.

2. Booking & Reservations

Reservations may be made online, by telephone, or in person at our Central office. A booking confirmation will be sent to the email address provided. Reservations are subject to vehicle availability.

The Company reserves the right to substitute a vehicle of equivalent or superior class if the booked category is unavailable. If a substitute vehicle cannot be provided, the Company will offer a full refund of any deposit paid.

3. Payments & Charges

3.1 Rental Charges

Rental rates are quoted in Hong Kong Dollars (HKD) and are charged per 24-hour period from the time of pick-up. A partial day is charged as a full day.

3.2 Security Deposit

A refundable security deposit of HK$3,000–HK$10,000 (depending on vehicle class) will be pre-authorised on the Renter's credit card at the time of collection. The deposit will be released within 7–10 business days after the vehicle is returned in satisfactory condition, subject to any deductions for damage, fines, or outstanding charges.

3.3 Additional Charges

• Late return fee: HK$200 per hour beyond the agreed return time
• Cleaning fee: HK$500–HK$3,000 depending on condition
• Traffic or parking fines: passed to the Renter plus a HK$200 administration fee
• Fuel: charged at the prevailing market rate if vehicle is returned with less fuel than collected
• Lost key replacement: HK$1,500–HK$5,000 depending on vehicle

4. Insurance & Liability

All rentals include mandatory third-party liability insurance as required by Hong Kong law. Optional Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and Personal Accident Insurance (PAI) are available at the rates shown in our pricing schedule.

The Renter remains fully liable for any damage, loss, or theft of the vehicle not covered by the applicable insurance policy.

5. Vehicle Use

The vehicle may only be driven by the Renter and any additional drivers registered on the rental agreement. The vehicle must only be used:

• On properly maintained public roads in Hong Kong;
• In accordance with all applicable traffic laws and regulations;
• Within the agreed geographic territory (Hong Kong, unless cross-border permission has been obtained in writing).

6. Fuel Policy

Vehicles are provided with a full tank of fuel. The Renter is responsible for returning the vehicle with a full tank. If the vehicle is returned with less fuel, a refuelling charge will apply at the prevailing pump rate plus a HK$150 service fee.

7. Vehicle Return

The vehicle must be returned to the agreed location by the agreed date and time. Early return does not entitle the Renter to a refund for unused days unless agreed in writing in advance. The Company will conduct a condition inspection upon return; the Renter is encouraged to be present.

8. Cancellation & Amendments

• Cancellation 48+ hours before pick-up: Full refund of deposit.
• Cancellation 24–48 hours before pick-up: 50% of first-day rental charge retained.
• Cancellation under 24 hours / No-show: Full first-day rental charge retained.

Amendments to bookings are subject to vehicle availability and must be made at least 24 hours before pick-up. Rate differences may apply.

9. Damage & Accidents

In the event of an accident, breakdown, theft, or any damage to the vehicle, the Renter must:

1. Ensure the safety of all persons involved and call emergency services (999) if required.
2. Notify Roadrunner Rent-A-Car immediately at +852 2525 5599.
3. Obtain details of all other parties involved (name, contact, licence plate, insurance).
4. Not admit liability or make any settlement offers.
5. Complete an accident report form available from our office.

10. Prohibited Uses

The following uses of the vehicle are strictly prohibited and will void all insurance cover:

• Driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or any substance impairing judgement
• Carrying more passengers than the vehicle's rated capacity
• Use in any race, rally, or speed test
• Sub-letting or hiring the vehicle to any other person
• Transporting illegal goods or using the vehicle for any unlawful purpose
• Off-road driving or driving on unsurfaced roads
• Towing or pushing any other vehicle or trailer
• Driving outside the agreed territory without written permission
• Allowing an unregistered driver to operate the vehicle

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by Hong Kong law, Roadrunner Rent-A-Car shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from the use of the vehicle, including but not limited to loss of income, loss of business, or personal injury beyond the scope of our insurance cover.

Our total liability to the Renter shall not exceed the total rental charges paid for the relevant rental period.

12. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Any disputes arising shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Hong Kong.
